Techventive Cites SYSPRO Fit for Food & Medical Device Companies

New ERP Manufacturing Report for ‘Industries in Chaos’ Now Available

COSTA MESA, Calif.— May 8, 2008 –
SYSPRO, a provider of visionary ERP for the manufacturing pragmatist, said today that two newly issued reports -- “What Medical Devices Sector Tech Buyers Need” and “Food for Thought” -- by analyst firm TechVentive are now available on the SYSPRO web site at www.syspro.com/TEC_food and www.syspro.com/TEC_medical .  The reports, which feature SYSPRO enterprise resource planning (ERP) software capabilities, are geared to small- and mid-market manufacturing companies in those sectors that are being pressured by a wide variety of quality, supply, compliance and tracking variables.   SYSPRO identifies that these industries require differentiable ERP functionality to compete and is promoting its solution capabilities to aid those markets.

The reports note that executives in food and medical device industries now recognize that their firms’ successes are dependent upon ERP vendors who are committed to their specific sectors, who anticipate regulatory changes, who possess very broad solution sets and have built tremendous technical flexibility into their products.  With more than 14,000 customers in 30 years of providing ERP solutions, SYSPRO has amassed great functionality and intellectual property around the food and medical device industries as well as numerous other verticals.

“Medical devices firms face a bewildering quantity of regulations and changing market requirements today,” quotes the report, authored by Brian Sommer, president and founder of TechVentive.  “The volatile nature of this industry is causing executives to rethink what type of technology provides the best long-term solution for their firms. In short, these executives have come to realize the shortcomings of ad hoc/stopgap compliance tools (e.g., spreadsheets) and basic/generic ERP solutions.

“The food industry,” he notes, “has been particularly beset by a variety of health issues arising from suspect supply sources, which in turn stem a wide range of cost and compliance pressures. The business environment of food companies is highly volatile and the technology supporting it must be malleable.  We believe that the underlying technical infrastructure of a food industry ERP solution must be modern, integrated and designed around newer standards such as SOA (Service Oriented Architecture) and .NET.”

In the small and mid-market, SYSPRO believes these demands either have not been adequately offered with an affordable solution that understands the requirements of smaller, more nimble organizations.

The reports note that SYSPRO delivers robust food and medical device industry solutions on a .NET SOA platform with capabilities that not only include the traditional set of SYSPRO ERP functionalities, but also those that extend the SYSPRO offerings to meet the specific business and regulatory needs of these industries, including:  Engineering Change Control; Serial and Lot Traceability; Quotation/Estimating; Projects and Contracts; Activity-Based Costing; Electronic Funds Transfer; EDI Integration; Real-time Alerts to Deviations; Goods in Transit; Quality Tracking; Landed Cost Tracking; Forecasting & Inventory Optimization; Product Configurator; Blanket Sales Orders & Releases; Return Merchandise Authorization; Integrated Bar-Coding; Forecasting with Families and Groupings for Inventory Management; Return to Vendor; Analytics; Customer Relationship Management; and Trade Promotion Management.
“TechVentive believes SYSPRO’s solutions represent viable, logical, long-term solutions for food and medical industry firms,” Sommer said.

SYSPRO’s more thoughtful approach to adopting new technology, such as web services and SOA platforms, also reflects the desires of its buyers who are driven by business needs and not by the latest headlines.  This exemplifies SYSPRO’s ongoing strategy of helping to simplify the success of its customers. SYSPRO calls its buyer landscape “PragmaVision” ™ consisting of pragmatic, visionary ERP executives that are driven by a desire for smart, but aggressive market growth.
